Why Happy Employees Earn Higher Salaries

Why Happy Employees Earn Higher Salaries Have you ever negotiated your salary? Or do you struggle to feel comfortable demanding more? PayScale have released a  salary negotiation guide, a combination of the best pieces of salary negotiation advice and a survey that  features over 31,000 US individuals  feedback. The guide also includes  more than 15 articles, featuring in-depth analysis from PayScale experts. The PayScale Salary Survey was created  to discover the amount of US  workers that had  ever negotiated their salary, if they were ever successful, and if they hadnt, what held them back.   For example, the guide breaks up into three simple stages the correct way of approaching a salary negotiation: Research, strategise and negotiate. Each stage features articles from PayScale experts, each offering some useful tips for getting the paycheck youre entitled to. From the study, here are  the main takeaways summarised: Asking for a raise: 43% of survey respondents have ever asked for a raise in their current field. For the 57% who have not asked, the reasons most  often  cited are: My employer gave me a raise before I needed to ask for one (38%) Im uncomfortable negotiating salary (28%) I didnt want to be perceived as pushy (19%) The study also discovered  that while only 25% of those earning $10K-$20K received the raise they requested, 70% of those earning more than $150K received their requested raise. This confirms that the higher your annual salary, the more likely you are to have asked for a raise, and  youre more likely to receive it. Gender split: The study also revealed  that women are more likely than men to state that they are uncomfortable negotiating salary  â€" 31% vs. 23% â€" even among C-level executives where 26% of female Chief Executives said they’re uncomfortable negotiating compared to 14% of male Chief Executives. Women with an MBA degree appear  to be struggling the most with potential gender bias on  negotiating their salary. Just  48% of female MBA graduates that requested a raise received it  compared to 63% of male MBA graduates. 21% of female MBA grads received no raise at all after requesting one, compared to just 10% of male MBA grads. Generation gap: According to the study, generations for the most part  handle salary negotiating differently.  The study says that Generation Y (born between 1977-1994) is far more likely to be uncomfortable negotiating a salary and is less likely to ask for a raise. Baby Boomers, however, (born between 1946 and 1964) are more likely to say they didn’t negotiate for fear of losing their job, which could indicate a concern over age bias in the workplace. What generation are you part of? And do you agree with this data? Location, location, location: As this was a US-based study, data was also accumulated geographically to determine which states asks more for a raise.  Alaska had the highest percentage of respondents who said they had asked for a raise (53 percent), followed by Rhode Island (51 percent) and then Oregon and West Virginia (both at 48 percent). The states with the lowest percentages of raise seekers were South Dakota (31 percent), Arkansas (34 percent) and Nebraska and Nevada (both at 37 percent). (I cant get no) satisfaction: Unsurprisingly  workers with low job satisfaction are more likely to ask for a raise (54%) than those with high job satisfaction (41%). However, just  19% of people with low job satisfaction receive the amount they asked for. 44% of workers with a high job satisfaction receive the amount they request. So why are  happier employees more likely to receive a raise? Well, studies have shown that happy people miss fewer work days, they are also less likely to lose their jobs and happier people are also more likely to be offered  a second  interview when job seeking. It appears positivity is an attractive trait in the workplace! What do you think about these study results? How do you feel negotiating your salary? Let us know in the comments!

Harness The Power Of The Internet for Your Job Search

Harness The Power Of The Internet for Your Job Search World Wide Web with its appearance greatly facilitated the process of job seeking. However, on the other hand, it has complicated it: in fact, there are a lot of different job search websites and hanging on them takes a lot of time. This means that the search operation should use the most effective tools. It is important not to miss anything, to be able to harness the power of the Internet to the fullest. So, how to find a job using the World Wide Web? Lets list all the major channels of job search via the Internet. 1 Sites of work. There are both general and specialized (sites with vacancies within the industry, the career site for young professionals, etc.). On some job sites the contacts of employers are in a public domain. However, most sites on employment do not have this possibility: you can only respond to the job ad through submitting your resume on this site (but not in the Word, just filling in the template). Employers can also invite you for an interview themselves, finding your resume on the work site through a keyword search. Some sites publish the original job vacancies, while others (the so-called aggregators of vacancies) collect ads from the employers and recruitment agencies with a variety of other employment sites, simplifying your task of finding work. You are able to find more on Jobtonic about CNA jobs or other jobs available. It is not necessary to use all the job-sites that you have found: 2-3 leading job sites may be sufficient to find   job in a big city. 2 Sites of publications that publish jobs. These publications can be either specialized (i.e., intended for job search) and mainstream (i.e., when the publication include news and articles on various subjects, and job employers and recruitment agencies just publish vacancies along with other announcements and advertisements, or the vacancies are collected in a separate section dedicated to the job search). These can be newspapers and magazines. Typically, they are paid and appear once a week. As a rule, in special editions there is the opportunity to publish your mini-resume. Unfortunately, not all the editions of the vacancies have sites to publish jobs there. But, fortunately, very much of the periodicals have them. A number of publications offers an opportunity not only to see the job, but to flip through the edition by e-services, i.e., to watch ads with vacancies LIVE. It should also be borne in mind that not always the electronic version of the publication with vacancies can completely replace original paper. The fact is that not all the sites duplicate all the jobs in the paper newspaper (and vice versa). 3 Forums about work. You can also look for a job on specialized forums. Such forums can also be found in the list of websites. For a job search at this platforms, employers and recruitment agencies post their vacancies directly and job seekers offer their services there too. In addition to this, job can be published just on the forums on various subjects. For example, it may be a section on work on any forum bringing together specialists from a particular profession. Forums are a good source because there can be published jobs not found in other sources. In addition, there is an opportunity to communicate directly with the HR-managers. Here we offered you the main sources for your job search. So, choose the specialized sites, such as JobTonic.com, or non-specialized periodicals to start your searching for a suitable position in your city. Brought to you in partnership with  Jobtonic

The best personality type game Ive ever played

The best personality type game Ive ever played Last week I announced that Im discounting my coaching sessions from $350 to $150. I have never discounted sessions in the ten years that Ive been coaching, but I decided to do it because I need to stick to a sleeping schedule and I thought if I schedule coaching calls to wake up and go to bed then Ill get a schedule. Im so excited that so many of you signed up. This does not mean that waking up at 7AM has been easy for me. In fact, I can tell I will need to do this for a long time. So Ive been letting people sign up for $150 coaching sessions after the deadline. And then I thought, I should extend the deadline. Because Im getting to talk with a much wider range of interesting people ones who are unlikely to pay the $350 fee but find the $150 fee more manageable. And then I thought, everyone should use this opportunity to check your type. Because unless you are an INFJ or ENFP, the chances of you typing yourself wrong are huge. For example, ENTJs and INTJs never mistype themselves, but lots of people mistake themselves as one of those two types. And STs frequently mistake themselves for Ns. And Is frequently mistake themselves for Es. The test is not always all that accurate when you do it yourself. Because we mix up who we want to be and who we actually are. We also forget that the test is relative and comparative. When it comes to the characteristics that are most central to us, we assume everyone has those characteristics, because we cant imagine life without them. So, for example, when I first started taking these tests, I did not think I was particularly goal oriented. But thats only because I didnt know people do things without having an end goal. For example, I literally didnt realize that people liked to have fun just for funs sake. The patterns are so clear to me how people mistype themselves and why. And I spend a good part of every week helping people understand why their test results are inaccurate and what the right result for them is. At this point, I can read an email and know someones type in five sentences. So I thought Id let you play the game with me. Here are some real examples of emails I received: Thank you so much for continuing to send me information about INTJs. I want to let you know that I always see your emails and read them. They describe me so well, and I will check out your course, however unfortunately I will not be financially able to take it at this time.   This person is an INFJ. They are giving too much unnecessary information, and they are having financial issues. INTJs do neither of those. Many thanks for the emails. Apologies that I am unable to respond. We are in the middle of appraisals at work and I am handling some projects that keep me extremely busy. PS I strongly think Im an INTJ :) Again. This person is definitely not an INTJ because its too much information, theres an emoticon, and they are overwhelmed at work. Its either an S mired in the details at work or an INFJ giving too much context. Im a 24 year old graduate from [redacted] whose next chapter is teaching English in China for 15 months. I was thinking of ordering the course for INTJs and also the one for freelancing. Which ones do you suggest for me? A young INTJ starts to climb the ranks of corporate life immediately. They would never take a break so early on because theyd be too excited to solve all the problems. Also, an INTJ would not take the freelancing course unless they needed to stay home  for some personal reason and were going crazy at home not working. So, this person is probably an NF because an S would think teaching English is too impractical. I cant tell from this email if the person is a J or a P, but I would then ask if they are a dreamer. An INFP would love saying they are a dreamer. An INFJ would see being a dreamer as indulgent. I took the test. I cant tell if Im an ESTP or an ENTJ. First, an ENTJ would never question their own type. But also, this guys email address is basically something equivalent to knightinshiningarmor. ESTPs are mostly men and they are the type that is most attractive to women. But they never stay. What are the requirements for one to enroll in the recommended course? Im an ENTJ.   An ENTJ does not ask requirements for anything. Ever. They just do it. They have to be a J because they are asking about a right answer, but an INTJ would find the answer to this question themselves. And it has to be a T because for one to enroll is someone who does not have good communication skills they are not writing how they talk. This means the person is an ESTJ. An S likes rules and would always want to know they are following the rules before they take action. Also STs frequently mistype as NTs. Thanks for help with personality type. Finally, I think I might be an ESTP and not an ESTJ. Any suggestions? Most S types take the test when someone at work or a close friend or spouse asks them to. Ss are not naturally curious about things that are so unscientific and not concrete. But even if the persons boss was asking for the test score, an ESTP would not care enough to have an extra conversation about it. So the person is an ESTJ. When I take the test I get INFJ or INFP. But I used to get ENTJ or ESTJ. And my friend just took the test with me and she thinks Im an ISFP. Can you help me figure out what I am? This person is an ENFP. They are the only type that can test as anything. They are very flexible, open thinkers and they dont like being boxed in by any one type. But they are the only type that feels this way. So not wanting to be just one type (and being able to identify with all types) is just part of being an ENFP. If you want to see patterns like this, you should take the Personality Type Master Class. But the real reason I wrote this is to tell you that everyone can benefit from making sure they know their personality type. But its very difficult to know your own type. And I have found that people have groundbreaking insights about themselves once they realize their true type. So unless you know you are an ENFP or INFJ, theres a high chance that you have mistyped yourself. And a discounted session for $150 is a really good way to find out. Of course, many of you will not have mistyped yourself, and then well just have a regular coaching session. Which you will like. If you want to sign up for a discounted coaching session, you can do it by paying $150 via  this link. Then email me and well schedule a time. As a reminder: you can you only get the discounted sessions at 7am Eastern or 10pm Eastern. Of course, Im always still happy to talk to you at other times, itll just cost you the usual $350.

Skilled Trades in 2018 Whats Trending Now - CareerMetis.com

Skilled Trades in 2018 What’s Trending Now Source :Pixabay.comEach New Year brings new evaluations of life direction and purpose, and with this question comes the issue of careers to the forefront.Too many of us go to college, graduate with a degree in something we care passionately about, and are left out in the cold as we watch friends and loved ones ascend in their careers while we struggle in jobs unrelated to our chosen fields.Perhaps the model for career development is all wrong. Maybe rather than focusing on what we love, we should focus on what is practical: concrete, actual skills that could sustain us if we were stripped of modern technologies and forced to sustain ourselves while living deep in the forest.evalOr perhaps, more simply, we might decide to pursue a career that doesn’t require a four-year degree. Here are a few out-of-the-box ideas in skilled trades that may surprise you, if you’re at a crossroads and in search of a job that requires the use of your hands.1. Learn a Skilled Trade The reason many peop le decide to attend college is because of the possibility of greater earning potential. However, what they often fail to take into account is the amount of debt you’ll be required to pay back in the form of student loans. The Idaho Department of Labor’s estimates that the cost of a U.S. bachelor’s degreeis up to $127,000! That’s a lot of money in exchange for no guarantee of a job that will allow you to pay that money back. However, skilled trades like construction, plumbing, and electrical work are always in demand and also have good earning potential, to boot. For example, if you’re interested in a career in construction, there are a number of different occupations to choose from: bricklaying, plastering, carpentry, stone masonry, laborer, roofer, and construction vehicle operator are a few of the titles you could choose from. Speaking of construction, Construction Jobs recently sharedtheir six best projected trade jobs for 2018: ironworker, brick mason, electrician, cement mason, heavy equipment operator, and carpenter.evalMoreover, if you choose to advance in your area of specialization, you could always become a construction manageror pursue further education in engineering or architecture.2. Get a Job with the Postal ServiceThis one may come as a surprise, but a career with the U.S. Postal Service has many hidden perks. You may be surprised to learn, for example, that there are career development optionsbesides being a mail carrier or package sorter, such as online learning from the National Center for Employee Development Plus, who wouldn’t love the chance to go outside, drive your own delivery truck, and get to know local neighborhoods â€" all while you’re getting paid? These days, the prevalence of social media can sometimes feel overwhelming. We all need to be reminded of the power of community and local connectedness in our everyday lives â€" and who better to do that than your local postal delivery person?3. Try Driving for a LivingIf youâ €™re up in the air, career-wise, or you’re simply hoping to make a bit of money on the side, consider driving for Uber or Lyft.Self-employed drivers do need to pay quarterly taxesas freelance individuals, but this kind of financial planning can be helpful to teaching you how to manage your finances if you ever want to start your own business as a skilled tradesperson. Plus, driving for a living can introduce you to a wide variety of people â€" some of whom might even help you in your career! Let’s not forget the power of casual networking to open doors in places we may not expect it: it’s been estimated that over 85 percentof open positions are filled via social and professional networking! If you really enjoy the flexibility of driving people around on your own schedule and being on the open road, you may eventually decide to become a truck driverand transport freight around the country. The pay is decent, and you’ll have the opportunity to see more of the country than many w ill see in a lifetime. Just be aware that self-driving trucks and cars are coming â€" though Tesla isn’t going into production of electric semi trucks until 2019. They may even be vulnerable to hacking, but not for a while yet. But even with self-driving vehicles, companies are likely to want human drivers in charge of operating them, for liability reasons. For example, say someone hacks into your vehicle while you are on the road. Vehicles will need to have safeguards to switch them back to manual driving mode, and that can’t happen without someone in the driver’s seat at all times. evalIf you’re interested in taking the leap toward a skilled trade profession but don’t know where to begin, consider becoming an apprenticeor attending a vocational school that teaches the essential skills you will need to be successful in your chosen field.Try talking to others in online forums or through community classes on the subject to get a sense of what you need to do. Look into resour ces at your local community college, library, or department of labor to get a sense of what’s out there and who can talk to you more about your field of interest. If you’re curious, ask around. You may be surprised at what you discover. The Department of Laborhas a number of resources for people interested in apprenticeships with local businesses or independent contractors. The Nexstar Legacy Foundation recently launched an interactive quizthat allows people to answer a few questions and receive more information on career opportunities that are best-suited for them and their unique interests and aptitudes.Who knows: you may surprise yourself by what you discover!eval

How to Write a Resume Like a Pro - Copycat the Best Resume Writing Style

How to Write a Resume Like a Pro - Copycat the Best Resume Writing StyleIf you are interested in writing a resume, then you have to keep in mind that there are no easy answers to the question of what makes for an effective resume. Although it is a standard format, the benefits of an effective resume vary from one person to another. The popular resume writers and most internet job forums advise hiring managers to hire candidates who have submitted their resumes to various online jobs and get their letters graded by recruiters who work in the Human Resources departments of various companies. The recommendation is for you to work with a professional resume writer. Many internet job forums also offer free resume examples that you can work with and use as a guide.A good resume example will not only give you an idea about how a resume should look like, but also it will help you see whether or not your resume writer knows what he or she is doing. Remember that no matter how good a resume exa mple may be, it will not tell you how well the person writing the resume is writing a specific resume. You have to rely on your own judgment and decide how good a candidate you think they are. There are some questions that you may find difficult to answer while trying to figure out what exactly makes for a good resume. One of the important factors that many people ignore is the resume area or areas. It is a mistake to focus too much on the title and have it totally unrelated to the job. Besides, the best resume examples contain good information in them, so this does not need to be overlooked. It is also a good practice to put the keyword density at least three times higher than the Google page rank of the content. In fact, the most relevant content should be placed on the top of the page, and the rest can be placed in the sidebars or between the headers of the resume. This can improve the visibility of the resume, which should be what you are after. Also remember that the format of th e resume should be appealing and colorful to catch the attention of the reader, while still presenting your achievements and qualifications.Resumes can also have errors, spelling mistakes and other problems that can make it less impressive. Therefore, it is best to keep a meticulous check on it to make sure it is error free. Every single word should be accurate and avoid using abbreviations or foreign languages unless absolutely necessary. You can even include examples of your previous works as a proof of your consistency and professionalism. It is important that you follow up the content of your resume in a way that can convince a potential employer that you are worth hiring. Being polite in your communications with your prospective employer is a very important factor. Always be professional and ask for references when possible and follow up with a follow up email, leaving an outgoing message and sending him a thank you note. You will notice that the best way to write a resume is to use your skills and abilities. This means that you should always make a list of your strengths and weaknesses, and the required skills that you have in order to be able to do the job effectively. The point of getting a professional resume writer is to allow him or her to show you the real you, showing that you can adapt to changes and be flexible to any new assignments.
