After on the lookout for work in her grownup life quite unsuccessfully, Ren participated in a profession evaluation to determine which industry or industries would greatest go well with her abilities, goals and aptitudes. To best meet her goals, Able related Ren with resources from a combination of applications provided in Chicago: the EPIC (Employment Opportunities, Personalized Services, Individualized Training, and Career Planning) program, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Program, the adult training and GED preparation program, and the IT Career Lab program. This proved to be profitable combination…but we are going to get to that later! Ren worked with profession coach Kelsey Briggs-Dineen to constitution a profession p lan that might define her short- and lengthy-term targets. Ren never earned her highschool diploma, and because Able provides GED preparation lessons, she may easily work on that aspect of her profession plan. Rekindling her curiosity in know-how was also a simple decision to make. Ren enrolled in Able’s IT Career Lab program to formalize her expertise and earn skilled credentials that may assist her begin her career pathway. Ren attended each IT Career Lab and GED preparation classes incomes her Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and shortly thereafter, her GED. With her new credentials, she entered into an internship where she obtained the opportunity to apply her abilities in a full-functioning IT department. Shortly after her internship ended, Ren was hired as a Deployment Technician at Stroger Hospital. When requested what recommendation she would give others, Ren said: “I would say continue via the program and be sure to end. Do just about every little thing your profe ssion counselors inform you, they’re not going to steer you mistaken. They will steer you in the best direction.
